Day 7-Winslow to Kingman, Arizona

Today, April 13, 2022

A short drive today; 200 miles.

First stop is the corner in Winslow -- made famous in the Eagles song: “Taking It Easy.” Pictures; souvenirs; and taking pictures with the sculpture of Glenn Frey and the blonde girl in “the Flatbed Ford.”

Second stop was Flagstaff. Walked around old town taking pictures and then having lunch at a ‘50’s cafe called the Galaxy’s Diner.

Out into the sagebrush to explore a long-ruined village built out of rocks. Difficult to know whether was from the indigenous Natives or built much later as a tourist attraction. Across the main building, we’re the words “Mountain Lions.”…..strange.

This afternoon we spent time in Seligman….once a very attractive stopping point on Route 66. Its population has now fallen below 2,000, but it still has some interesting curios shops. By the way, after much observation, I have concluded that Jason and Jay Scherr are our best shoppers. We’ve not made a stop when they didn’t come back to the cars without bag(s).

Finally, tonight we’re staying in Kingman and will have our last dinner together before getting up tomorrow early and heading home.

Before I sign off, I want to express a special “thank you” to Ray Scherr, Marv Landon, Nina Vo and Richard Wilson. They did all the hard work of putting this Tour together and I’m appreciative of all their efforts.

And, finally, a big “thank you” to my brother David for joining me on this trip. It was an opportunity to seal an-already good relationship……and a special “thank you” to wife, Ilene, for letting me continue with these adventures
